On a chilly January afternoon, Hanna Wilson and her son became heroes for the 13 puppies they found in the middle of a busy dirt road in Rock Point, Arizona. What started as a regular drive turned into a mission that shows the powerful impact of compassion and community assistance.
The Heart-Stopping Discovery
While driving through Rock Point with her teenage son, Hanna Wilson didn’t expect her day to take a dramatic turn.
Initially, what seemed like small piles of fur on the road caught her eye.
Her shock intensified when she realized they were actually young puppies—eight visible with more hiding, all dangerously in the path of speeding cars.
A Race Against Time
Realizing how serious the situation was, Hanna quickly reached out to Soul Dog Rescue, known for helping animals in trouble.
Shelby Davis, the rescue director, recalled receiving Hanna’s urgent call and immediately set out to help.
While waiting for Shelby, Hanna and her son started rescuing the puppies.
Braving the busy traffic, her son managed to gather the puppies and safely placed them in a crate on the roadside while waiting for help.
Community Heroes Step Up
When Shelby arrived, they quickly moved the puppies to the safety of the rescue vehicle.
The puppies, only 4-5 weeks old, were checked by a vet right away.
“They were desperately thirsty and hungry, signs they’d been out there for a while,” said Shelby.
Regardless, they were relieved to have saved the puppies before the temperatures dropped further that night.
What Comes Next
Thanks to the quick actions of Hanna, her son, and the Soul Dog Rescue team, the puppies were not only saved from danger but were also placed in loving foster homes that same day.
“None of them had to come into the shelter, which is always best for them,” Shelby said. “With their fosters, they were getting their needs looked after 24/7.”
Now safe, these puppies have a bright future ahead of them.
After getting their vaccinations and necessary care, they will be ready for adoption, growing stronger and more playful every day.
