Not all pets get to stay with their first owners forever, and some, sadly, get abandoned.
This happened to Carlile, a five-month-old German Shepherd, who was left in a car wash dumpster in Tampa.
But Carlile’s story shows how kindness and love can make a big difference.
The Rescue
Carlile was found by a worker at a Tampa car wash who heard whimpering sounds from a dumpster.
When the worker looked inside, he saw Carlile, with his big brown eyes and floppy ears.
Even though he was in a bad place, Carlile greeted his rescuer with a wagging tail and a smile.
The car wash manager quickly called the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) to get Carlile help.
This was the start of Carlile’s journey from being abandoned to finding a loving home.
A New Lease on Life
At HSTB, Carlile got a full check-up. He had hookworms, which are common in puppies that live in dirty places. Luckily, Carlile stayed strong through the treatment.
The HSTB team treated his hookworms, gave him vaccines, dewormed him, and put in a microchip to get him ready for adoption.
Carlile’s friendly and loving nature made everyone at HSTB fall in love with him. In less than a week, he was healthy, happy, and ready for a new home.
The shelter shared Carlile’s story on social media, and it caught the attention of many, including the Serio family.
The Perfect Match
The Serio family had lost their beloved German Shepherd the year before and were touched by Carlile’s story.
Pam Serio knew right away that Carlile was meant to be with them. She drove to the shelter and arrived at midnight to make sure she was first in line when it opened.
Pam’s dedication paid off. The Serio family signed the adoption papers as soon as the shelter opened, and Carlile was officially part of their family.
The family is now deciding whether to rename him “Bruce Wayne” or keep his name the same.
A Bright Future
Today, Carlile is happy in his new home with the Serio family. His playful antics and loving nature have brought joy and laughter back into their lives.
Eight months after his adoption, Carlile is a beloved family member, living the good life he deserves.
