Amira is a special dog, born with only her two back legs. For nine years, she roamed the streets of Thailand and even survived a gunshot to the head.
Thankfully, the Soi Dog Foundation found her and gave her the help she needed to heal.
The Journey to a New Home
Lara Pleasence from Montreal, Canada, saw Amira’s story and knew she had to help.
“Seeing Amira, as they called her, so sick, with a thumb-sized hole over her left eye, but as the vets at Soi Dog Foundation were treating her very painful wounds, her tail never stopped wagging. That shattered my heart and I knew right then I couldn’t risk that she would go to somebody who wouldn’t give her everything that she deserved. I just wanted to love her and give her a happily ever after,” Lara shared with Bored Panda.
Lara worked through the adoption process to get Amira, and it all paid off when she finally arrived in Canada.
Settling into a Loving Home
Amira quickly felt at home, moving around with joy as if she had always been part of Lara’s family,
“She bounced out of her crate as if she had known us forever. It was the most beautiful homecoming and I will never forget how happy she was and that her energy matched ours, almost exactly,” Lara said.
Connecting with Family
Amira became an important part of the Pleasence family.
Lara’s son, who has autism, found a best friend in Amira, proving that love goes beyond looks.
Amira showed them that it’s okay to be different and that we can all find friendship and happiness no matter what challenges we face.
Enjoying Every Moment
Amira’s story teaches us to embrace life with a positive attitude, no matter our past.
She lives each day to the fullest, finds adventure in simple things, and reminds us to do the same.
With her new wheels and prosthetic legs from 3D Pets, Amira could run and play like any other happy dog.
Sharing the Spirit of Never Giving Up
“She’s become our greatest teacher in this house. She really has. She’ll jump up on the couch, she’ll miss, she’ll fall, she’ll jump up again, and it won’t stop her. Nothing will,” Lara said.
Amira’s cheerful nature and willingness to keep trying have shown her family and many others that anything is possible with a little bit of help and a lot of heart. She has become a symbol of hope and courage.
