When Carlie Cahill went to pick up a foster dog at a PetSmart, she never thought she’d fall for a sad-looking, overweight Chihuahua named Shorty.
He caught her eye, sitting all alone, and she felt she had to help him.
A Fresh Start
Carlie decided to adopt Shorty and help him get better. After a vet check-up, they found out he had hypothyroidism, a health issue that made him gain a lot of weight.
No one knew about this before Carlie took him in.
Getting Better
With Carlie’s love and care, Shorty started to lose the unhealthy weight. The right medicine and portion-controlled food helped him become more active and happy.
A Special Friendship
As Shorty got healthier, he also became friends with Carlie’s other dog, Toad.
Toad was much bigger but knew to be gentle with his new buddy, and they enjoyed spending time together.
Remembering Shorty
Sadly, three years after Shorty came into Carlie’s life, he passed away.
Carlie treasures the time they had together and is glad she could give Shorty a loving home for his last years.
Shorty’s story shows how much love and care can change an animal’s life. It’s a reminder that older pets like Shorty deserve a second chance at happiness.
