When birds fly, they show us what’s special about them.
Yet Herman, a grounded pigeon, finds equal happiness among a caring canine family. His story reveals that freedom and love aren’t confined to the skies.
Herman’s Hardships
Herman was discovered in a parking lot and could not fly. He was taken to the Mia Foundation, where Sue Rogers welcomed him and cared for him.
Herman’s weakness and hunger hinted at a virus known as PMV, Avian Paramyxovirus, which rendered him flightless.
Fitting In

Instead of giving up, Sue let Herman stay with her and his newfound furry friends at the foundation.
At the Mia Foundation, Herman quickly became a valued member. He bonded with the dogs, played with their puppies, and showed that friendships can cross animal species.
These relationships are proof that animals can form strong ties, just like humans do.
Even with his weak wings, he was pampered with lots of treats. Sue also taught him many tricks that showed how smart Herman was.
