In Idaho, there’s a place called Wild Roots Farm that feels more like a big family than a farm.
Here, Ashley takes care of some very special cows that are just as friendly as any household pet.
One of these cows is Thor, a Scottish Highland cattle as lovable as any puppy dog.
A Cozy Home for Cows
Ashley shares her life on the farm with warmth and love.
Four Scottish Highland cows—Rona, Betty, Thor, and little Loki—make Wild Roots their home. Each cow has its own way of making the farm a happier place.
How Thor Became Part of the Family
The story begins with Rona, who needs a friend because cows like to have buddies around.
Ashley brought Betty in to keep Rona company. When they met Thor, it was love at first sight.
Thor needed a new home, and they couldn’t resist his charm.
“He’s the goodest boy,” Ashley beams, recalling the moment they knew Thor had to be part of their family.
Big, Furry, and Full of Love
Thor loves being around people. Sit with him in the grass, and he’ll come close for cuddles and brushes.
He might even rest his head on your lap for a nap. Betty might be a bit shy, but she’s gentle, and Rona may act tough sometimes, but she’s a sweetheart.
Together, they make up the unique family of cows at the farm.
The Shy Baby Cow
Then there’s Loki, the newest and youngest member of the farm, who was born there.
He’s still getting used to everything, but he’s as cute as can be, with his pink nose and little horns just starting to show.
The Amazing Horns of Highland Cattle
The cows have impressive horns that they use not just to protect themselves but also to do things like pull down branches to eat leaves.
Their horns are very sensitive; they can be as gentle with them as we are with our hands.
Brush Time Is Bonding Time
Brushing the cows isn’t just for keeping them clean—it’s a special time that the cows and their human friends enjoy.
The cattle love the attention, and Ashley and her team wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I think a lot of people don’t understand what an amazing sentient being cows are,” Ashley reflects.
At Wild Roots Farm, cows are more than just animals; they’re truly part of the family. Each one is unique and brings joy to the farm in its own way.
The farm is a reminder that showing kindness and care to all creatures creates strong bonds and lasting friendships.
