In a touching act of kindness, a tawny owl named Luna has become the adoptive mother to two orphaned owlets in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire, UK.
Luna’s own eggs didn’t hatch, leaving her without any chicks of her own.
But her story took a hopeful turn when wildlife rehabilitator Robert E. Fuller gave her a second chance at motherhood.
A Chance Meeting
Luna’s home, built from a hollowed-out tree stump, had been quiet without chicks for quite some time.
Then, two little owlets without a family needed someone to care for them.
Fuller, knowing Luna still had strong motherly feelings, put these fluffy babies in her nest while she was out.
Instant Love
When Luna got back, she found the two owlets and quickly snuggled up with them.
Fuller, who keeps an eye on the owls with special cameras, saw her warm up to them immediately.
“Look at that; she’s brooding them straight away,” he couldn’t help but say in awe. “This is absolutely incredible.”
Luna took to the owlets as if they were her own, showing just how big an owl’s heart can be.
More Owlets to Love
Luna’s nest didn’t stay quiet for long. Soon, she got four more owlets to look after.
Luna and her mate Bomber were naturals, caring for the growing family with ease. The once-empty nest became a busy place full of life and chirping.
Learning to Fly
Fuller’s video shows the owlets’ amazing growth, from needing rescue to getting ready to leave the nest.
Luna cared for Dawn and Dusk, the two owlets, as they began to explore and play.
They learned how to be owls from her, and soon, they were ready to take their first shaky flights into the trees.
Looking Forward
With all her foster chicks gone, Luna is now getting ready for another chance to have chicks of her own.
Her story shows us that kindness can make a big difference and that giving love to others, no matter who they are, is what truly matters.
