In Kalimantan, Indonesia, a fisherman named Ambo saved a crocodile from dying, leading to an incredible friendship.
The Brave Act
Ambo was just out for his normal fishing day when he saw a crocodile in trouble. A plastic bag was stuck in its mouth, and it looked like the crocodile was choking every time it tried to snap its jaws.
Ambo didn’t think twice. He jumped on top of the crocodile and started pulling the plastic bag off its mouth using his hands.
Without hesitation, Ambo bravely clung onto the crocodile, diving in and out of the water to free it from the plastic bag.
A 20-year Reptile Fishing Companion
The crocodile, now named Riska, began to follow Ambo on his fishing trips.
For 20 years, from a young crocodile to a big four-meter adult, she stayed close to the fisherman who helped her.
The two look out for each other. Ambo feeds Riska, sometimes pets her back when she comes by his boat, and even asks a vet to go down the river to treat Riska’s injury.
Making a Difference
This unusual bond has gotten the whole community talking.
It’s not common for a crocodile to trust a person, especially to the extent of the closeness that Ambo and Riska share. But it’s even more unusual for a human to do what Ambo did, risking his life to save a known vicious animal.
“It takes a special human being to do what he did. Not many people would have reacted to the Crocodile choking, by jumping on its back and forcing open its jaws to remove the object. He’s as rare as this relationship is,” a YouTube viewer said.
Inspired by Ambo’s story, his son, Booty, began cleaning up the river. They hope their actions encourage others to take care of the environment, too.
Kindness Leads to Friendship
Ambo and Riska’s story shows the power of kindness. It proves that even a dangerous animal, known for its powerful jaws and attacks, can coexist and become friends with humans.
Their story is not just heartwarming but also a reminder of how unexpected friendships can happen.
