Carrie Long, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Texas, received a call about a baby raccoon left alone in a storm. This tiny creature was found alone, cold, and wet on the side of the road.
Carrie took the raccoon, which she named Jasper, to Texas Fawn and Friends, a nonprofit organization and rehabilitation center in North Texas for orphaned and injured fawns.
Rainbow After the Storm
Jasper’s early days were uncertain, but Carrie’s dedicated care helped him recover.
Jasper received specialized care, including medical treatment for his initial condition and a diet designed to nurture his growth.
The once fragile raccoon became one of the sanctuary’s most active and playful animals.
A Special Bond
At the sanctuary, he had formed a deep friendship with Hope, a doe at the center who had also been rescued as a baby when she lost her mother.
Despite their different species, Jasper and Hope became inseparable.
Their daily routine involved joyful hug greetings, playful antics, and peaceful moments resting side by side.
Choosing Family
Seeing Jasper and Hope’s strong bond made Carrie reconsider her plans. It’s time for Jasper to return to the wild, but his bond with Hope makes her think about keeping them together.
In the end, she allowed Jasper to stay where he was happiest — with his 75 deer friends at the sanctuary.
Now, this pair of unlikely friends spend their days together, safe and cared for.
