A dog named Cupid watched his family pack up their car and drive away from their home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Unsure of what was happening, he stayed on the porch, hoping they’d come back if he just waited there.
Sad Goodbye
Neighbors who saw Cupid waiting called Janine Guido, who runs Speranza Animal Rescue.
When she heard Cupid’s family had left him, she went right over. She found him looking for food near a trash can but couldn’t get close to him at first.
Saved by Kindness
Cupid ran back to his porch and scratched at the door, trying to get into the empty house. It made Janine very sad to see.
She tried talking to him, and when she said everything would be okay, Cupid came over and let her put a leash on him.
“It sounds silly, but when I told him everything would be okay, he seemed to understand,” Guido said. “He came over, sat down, and let me leash him.”
Moving to Speranza Animal Rescue was the start of a new life for Cupid.
New Friends
At the rescue, Cupid was confused but friendly, and he wagged his tail at everyone.
“He has been nothing but the sweetest gentleman since coming to the rescue,” said Guido, who believes Cupid will find a new home quickly.
Looking for Love
Cupid is getting ready to find a family that will take care of him forever. Janine knows it won’t be hard because Cupid is so kind.
“I don’t think finding a home will be hard for him because he truly is the sweetest guy,” she said.
As Cupid waits for the right family to find him, his story reminds us how much a little kindness can mean to someone who needs help.
Cupid, you are now part of a big, caring family, and the perfect home for you is out there.
