Alicia had spent a whole year gently trying to make friends with her horse, Rudnick, but he always kept to himself.
Then came the day Brander, her boyfriend, met Rudnick. To Alicia’s shock, Rudnick walked right over to him as if saying hello to an old buddy. They hit it off instantly.
“I’d been doing so much work with him,” Alicia said, puzzled and a bit jealous.
“And then he just toodles right up to Brander. It was at that moment I knew something was going on between them.”
An Unlikely Pair
Brander hadn’t been around horses much before meeting Alicia. Yet, when he stood beside Rudnick for the first time, instead of feeling scared, he felt peaceful.
“When you stand next to him, you get a little nervous,” Brander admitted. “But the first time that I got to pet him, I felt calm.”
This was the start of a special relationship.
Brander started learning all about taking care of a horse from watching Alicia with Rudnick, discovering all the hard work that goes into it.
Taking the Reins
When it was time for Brander’s first ride, Rudnick seemed to know he had to be extra careful.
It was as if he told Alicia, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of him.” Watching Brander and Rudnick together made Alicia proud, even if she felt a slight twinge of jealousy.
“He’s a natural at it,” she smiled as Brander confidently held the reins.
Future Adventures
Rudnick isn’t running around just yet, but there’s no doubt that when the summer comes, he’ll be ready for bigger adventures with Alicia and Brander.
For their first ride, he was patient and gentle, as if he knew how important Brander was to Alicia.
The unexpected friendship between Rudnick and Brander shows how animals can really sense when someone is loved by their owner.
And even though Alicia jokes about being jealous, she really loves seeing the bond between her horse and her boyfriend.
It’s a sweet reminder that sometimes, the connection we’re trying to make is just waiting for the right moment to happen.
