Two residents from the Bronx found a senior cat on their building’s stairs, in rough shape but full of hope.
They decided to take him in and named him Otto. He was thin, thirsty, and his coat was a tangled mess. They couldn’t leave him like that and knew they had to help.
“His sad eyes almost closed, his face swollen,” they said. “You could tell he was giving up.”
But taking Otto into their home was the start of a new and happier life. He was thankful from the start, showing it with purrs and gentle licks.
Caring for Otto
They washed away the dirt from his body, and Otto responded with purrs and licked their hands. His spirit was unbroken by his hard life on the streets.
They shaved off his matted fur and slowly got him used to his new cat siblings, keeping him apart until the vet gave the all-clear that he was healthy and wouldn’t make the other cats sick.
Otto’s Favorite Toy
As Otto got better, he started to fill out, and his fur began to grow back. A special toy, a banana filled with catnip, became his favorite.
“He cuddles up with it, napping,” said his new mom. It seemed to be the first toy he’d ever owned, and he loved it.
Settling In
Otto found his safe place on a couch in his new home.
If they moved him to another room, he’d always go back to his couch. It was where he felt most secure, and as he became more confident, he started to explore more.
Otto Becomes a Star
Otto’s amazing change has captured the hearts of many on the internet, winning him many fans on Instagram. With each update, he seemed happier and more at home.
