Sherman is a Pit Bull who didn’t have the easiest start. He landed in a dog rescue event, looking for a home despite his big, smelly, and offbeat appearance.
But there was something about him that caught the attention of a man named Heath.
The Tough-Looking Dog With a Big Heart

Sherman had a huge head, one eye that seemed like it might pop out, and tiny ears.
“He smelled terrible. His elbows were like thick old leather patches. A lot of his hair was gone. He had a sort of a weird hunchback. One eye bulged out, blind-looking, painfully ready to pop. His ears were almost entirely cut off. The tiniest of nubs were left behind,” Heath described.
Despite his looks, Sherman is a sweet dog who wants to be loved so much by the way he leaned in for a pet.
A New Friend Finds His Forever Home

Heath and his partner didn’t plan to keep Sherman when they first decided to help him.
They thought they would only look after him until a permanent home was found.
But everything changed after an evening walk when Sherman got scared and yelped, just from bumping into Heath – afraid he would get hit.
The Promise of Protection

Heath promised right there and then that Sherman would never be hurt again.
“I told him, ‘It’s okay now, buddy, nobody will ever hurt you again. You’re okay now, I promise. Nobody will ever hurt you again,’” Heath shared.
That promise was the beginning of Sherman’s new life with Heath.
Sweet Sherman

Sherman began to feel safe with his new family.
He remained sweet, greeting people and being kind to other dogs.
“He had lots of fear but not an ounce of mean,” Heath said.
Every Penny Was Worth It

Sherman’s medical treatments were costly, but to his family, he was worth it.
The couple saw past his exterior and promised to take care of all his needs, no matter what it took, even if it meant spending $30,000 on his medical care.
More than that, Sherman is spoiled with love, treats, and cuddles. He truly became a beloved member of their family.
Days Filled with Love
Health problems from his past caught up with him, and life got tough for Sherman.
He lost his sight, a clear sign that his time with them was coming to an end.
But with love and care from his family, he kept feeling the joy of being part of a family until his very last day.
His family is also grateful for the time they had with him and the joy he brought into their lives.
Seeing Beyond Appearance

Sherman’s story is a powerful reminder that every dog, no matter their looks or past troubles, is worthy of love and a caring home.
Sherman’s life with Heath and his family shows us the incredible difference that kindness can make.
This tough-looking dog with a tender heart found happiness because someone looked beyond his flaws and saw the loving soul inside.
