In Clifton Park, New York, Chris and Mariesa Hughes are known for their huge hearts, especially for running their dog rescue organization. They’ve opened their home to eight rescue dogs, creating a life filled with love, fun, and a bit of chaos.
Their newest idea to make life even better for their dogs? A huge custom-made bed that fits all of them together.
Making Space for Everyone
Chris and Mariesa each brought their own dogs into the relationship. Mariesa had two dogs, while Chris had six.
After deciding to move in together, Chris and Mariesa knew they needed more space for their combined eight dogs.
Chris and Mariesa didn’t just want to look after their dogs’ basic needs; they wanted to spoil them. So, they had the idea to make a giant bed to share with all of their dogs.
The Giant Dog Bed
Designed and made by Mike Ford, a local craftsman who loves dogs just as much as they do, the bed is made from strong cherry wood.
The bed is so big and solid it’s more like a piece of sturdy furniture than just a bed.
It even has steps for the older and smaller dogs who can’t jump up so easily.
Mike Ford not only made their idea come true, but he also added his own personal touch. He added a carving of a paw print in memory of his own dog, Bailey, who had passed away.
Nights and Days Full of Doggy Snuggles
At night, each dog picks their favorite spot on the bed.
With all eight dogs spread across the bed, Mariesa sometimes wakes up surrounded by her dogs in funny sleeping positions.
“I wake up and I think, ‘This is incredible. I’m like a contortionist with Stig spooning me and Gremlin between my legs and Sam sharing my pillow,’” Mariesa said.
Their Ever-Growing Furry Family
Time has gone by since they built the giant bed, and they have said goodbye to some dogs and welcomed new ones.
But one thing has stayed the same: the couple’s deep love for every dog they care for.
Their home is always open to new foster dogs who fit right in with the rest of the gang.
The Warmth Every Dog Deserves
Chris and Mariesa Hughes are proving that every dog deserves a warm bed and a loving home, and they’re doing it for eight dogs at a time.
Their mega bed is more than just a place to sleep; it’s a reminder of the love we give to our pets and the care we take to ensure their comfort.
