Big Brown Bats forage over Delaware ponds, woodland openings, streets, and fields and often roost in buildings as well as tree cavities. On warm evenings, watch above water or along forest edges at Augustine or Assawoman wildlife areas; broad wings and steady flight can help distinguish them from smaller bats.

Records peak in May, July, and October; winter finds may involve sheltered or disturbed bats rather than normal evening activity. Never handle one bare-handed.
