Tennessee’s black rat overlay draws on 14 iNaturalist records and 37 GBIF records from 2000–2026. Its dated series is strongest in January with seven entries and November with five, but has none in July or August. Database submissions indicate where and when people documented the species; they are not a population count.
Reelfoot Lake State Park, Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge, and Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge are the three locations named for further searching. The winter-weighted calendar and midsummer gap are features of this record set, not evidence that black rats follow the same seasonal pattern statewide.
