Brush mouse reports form a northern Utah pattern around Great Salt Lake and Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, with Ouray National Wildlife Refuge offering another useful reference point farther east. These records connect the mouse with brushy cover near wetland margins, not with the lake’s open water or salt flats.
July stands out in the monthly record pattern, followed by a smaller rise in October. That uneven timing may reflect fieldwork and access as well as mouse activity, and it doesn’t measure the size of Utah’s population. NatureServe considers the species apparently secure in the state.
