The complete county distribution, spread across 20 Maryland counties. Every occurrence record falls in one county, so these sum to the total. Counties from GBIF and US Census boundaries.

Eastern Moles live beneath Maryland lawns, meadows, fields, and open woodland in moist, workable soil. Raised surface ridges and fresh soil mounds are the usual evidence; seeing the animal itself is uncommon and generally follows flooding, excavation, or accidental exposure.

Records occur year-round and peak in May, June, and October. Because observations depend heavily on people noticing soil signs or exposed animals, the calendar is a record of detectability rather than underground activity alone.
