Eastern Red Bats are solitary, foliage-roosting bats that move through Maryland’s wooded river corridors and leafy parks. Around Patapsco Valley and county parks, watch open gaps above streams and tree lines shortly after sunset; a bat detector is more reliable than trying to identify a fast silhouette by sight.

Records peak in April and November, consistent with periods of seasonal movement, though some observations occur throughout the year. Roosts are exceptionally difficult to find among leaves, and mapped reports represent detections rather than the full distribution.
