Utah’s Fremont’s squirrel reports trace the ponderosa-covered highlands of the south. Bryce Canyon National Park holds the largest named cluster, with smaller groups in Manti-La Sal and Dixie national forests. That pattern follows cone-bearing mountain woods rather than the open desert basins between them.

Reports gather from May through August, although the small record set can’t define the animal’s full seasonal activity. Summer also brings easier access to these upland forests, so the pattern reflects when people can look as well as when squirrels are noticed.
