Hopi chipmunk reports center on Arches and Canyonlands national parks, with smaller clusters at Capitol Reef and in the La Sal Mountains. Red-rock cracks provide shelter across this canyon country, while nearby pinyon and juniper add cover above exposed desert ground.

Spring brings the first strong rise in reports, especially during April and May. A second, nearly equal pulse arrives in September and October after midsummer eases. Visitor patterns affect those peaks too, so they describe recorded encounters rather than chipmunk numbers.
