North American Least Shrews live beneath dense grass, leaf litter, and low cover in fields, marsh margins, and other early-successional habitat. In Delaware they are far more likely to be detected incidentally than watched, even around White Clay Creek, Brandywine Creek, and Coastal Plain wildlife areas.
The few mapped records peak in October, but the sample is too small to define a dependable season. Their scarcity in public observations reflects a tiny, secretive animal and limited detection effort.
