North American least shrews carry no NatureServe state rank in Oklahoma, SNR unranked, and all 15 of the state’s records come from iNaturalist with no GBIF specimen data, meaning casual sightings, not trapping surveys, document everything known about this tiny, secretive species here.
October alone accounts for 59 of the year’s monthly-tallied sightings, an extraordinary spike that dwarfs every other month combined, almost certainly reflecting a single concentrated observation event or survey burst rather than any real seasonal explosion in shrew activity, since this species stays active year-round without hibernating.
