Northern rock mouse reports connect three very different New Mexico landmarks. Santa Fe and Gila national forests point to rugged woodland, while Bosque del Apache brings the record down toward the Rio Grande and its rocky desert margins.
May and June form one reporting peak, followed by another in October and November. That split is more likely to reflect field effort and detection than two population booms. Night-active mice stay hidden in broken ground, so even suitable places can produce few casual reports.
