Pinyon mouse reports bridge very different volcanic and forest settings in New Mexico. El Malpais National Monument brings lava country into the picture, while Cibola and Lincoln national forests point to wooded mountain habitat farther east and south.
March produces one reporting lift, and July and August produce another. That split calendar may reflect when fieldwork reaches these landscapes as much as mouse activity. Records from named public lands are easier to submit than encounters in remote woodland, so their clusters aren’t a habitat ranking.
