Silver-haired bats carry a NatureServe S2B imperiled breeding rank in New York, notably more precarious than the species’ G4 global rating, for one of North America’s most migratory bats. Long Island’s 8 logged sightings anchor the coastal migration corridor this species funnels through on its way south each fall.
August through October together account for 127 of the 226 records, well over half the total, the classic fall passage window along the Atlantic coast; the record nearly vanishes in January (1 sighting), consistent with the species having largely left New York for winter roosting grounds farther south.
