Steller sea lion observations focus on Washington’s inland marine route through the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound, with records reaching south toward Nisqually. These points identify documented shore and boat encounters, not the relative size of sea lion groups at different sites.

Records span the calendar but rise to their strongest peak in September, later than the summer peak in the harbor seal overlay. That contrast is useful as a reporting pattern, though neither curve is a population count.
