Tricolored bats forage over Alabama waterways and forest edges in warm weather, then depend on caves and other protected sites during winter. The Mobile-Tensaw Delta, Weeks Bay, and Wheeler refuge represent productive wetland landscapes, but winter records may also reflect concentrated cave surveys rather than easy public viewing.
The January-to-March record peak should not be read as a population surge. This bat is ranked vulnerable in Alabama and globally, and white-nose syndrome has made undisturbed roosts crucial; observe evening flight from outside and never enter or illuminate occupied roost sites.
