Tricolored bats forage over water and along forest edges in eastern and central Oklahoma, then use caves and other protected sites for winter roosting. Their conservation concern makes roost protection more important than close viewing; summer evening watches over water are the least intrusive way to look for small bats.
Records span the year and are concentrated in February–April and December, a pattern strongly influenced by winter survey work. Never enter closed caves or disturb hibernating bats, which can cost them critical energy and spread pathogens between sites.
