The complete county distribution, spread across 21 Utah counties. Every occurrence record falls in one county, so these sum to the total. Counties from GBIF and US Census boundaries.

Uinta ground squirrel reports follow mountain valleys and meadow country from the Wasatch Back into the western Uintas. The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is the strongest named location, with a smaller group in Fishlake National Forest. Great Salt Lake is only a broad reference point, not the wet habitat this burrowing squirrel needs.

Records rise from May through July, a short window when the squirrels are active above ground and mountain roads are open. Sparse reports later in the year don’t establish that they’re absent.
