Introduced wild boar occur across much of Alabama, including Talladega and Bankhead national forests, where hardwood mast, dense cover, and wet soils support them. Fresh rooting can look like a patch of ground has been roughly tilled; the disturbance damages native plants, soils, and stream margins even when no animals are visible.
Reports rise in February–March and again in September–October. Boar can be unpredictable, especially when cornered or accompanied by young, so watch only from a substantial distance and never approach animals at a feeding or wallowing site.
