In Guam’s warm fields, a dog named Winnie was in a tough spot.
She was starving, had a jar stuck on her head, and was afraid of people. But everything changed with a little help.
Winnie’s hard fight to stay alive turned into an uplifting story of hope when the Boonie Flight Project, a local organization helping stray animals connect with and fly to adopters in the States, stepped in to save her.
Winnie’s Struggle

Winnie looked so sad with the jar over her head and was reluctant to let anyone help her. But the volunteers knew they had to act quickly.
“We didn’t know how long she had left,” said Stephanie Musick from Boonie Flight Project, concerned about when she last had a meal.
“She was rapidly deteriorating. I absolutely could not leave her.”
The Rescue Effort

The rescue team was very patient and finally managed to gain Winnie’s trust.
They brought her to a safe place and carefully removed the jar causing her so much trouble.
Starting Over
Once the jar was removed, Winnie cautiously observed her surroundings, finally able to see the world.
She would hide in the bathroom, still wary of being around people.
Slowly, kind treatment started to change how Winnie felt about people and her new home.
Learning to Trust

Winnie gradually started to feel more comfortable.
She discovered the comfort of dog beds and couches.
Watching the other dogs in her foster home, she also began to understand that people could be friends.
A gentle and loving woman came to pet her and make her feel safe, showing her kindness for the first time in a while.
Finding a Family
Two and a half months later, Stephanie knew Winnie was ready for a new family.
That’s when Winnie met Mary and her family, the people who would give her a forever home.
“She was very, very terrified,” Mary shared, recalling Winnie’s appearance when they first picked her up.
A Forever Home and New Friend

Mary’s other dog, Maple, became Winnie’s guide. She showed Winnie how to play, trust, and become part of the family.
“Slowly, she’s building that trust with people and other dogs,” Mary said. “She is definitely part of a pack now.”
Now, Winnie’s tail wags with joy in her forever home.
She now runs and plays carefree.
Beyond the Rescue

Rescue isn’t just about bringing an animal to safety—it’s also about setting the stage for a lifetime of happiness thereafter.
Winnie’s wagging tail and bright eyes truly show the lasting impact of hope and the joyful life that follows a successful rescue.
