Cuvier’s beaked whales dive deeper and longer than almost any other marine mammal, which helps explain why Florida has only 41 recorded encounters, all sourced from GBIF’s stranding and survey data rather than casual sightings. It’s native to Florida’s waters, and NatureServe hasn’t given the state a numeric rank (SNR), while the global rank sits at G4, apparently secure.
Reports edge up in February (9 records) and again in October (7), but every other month stays in the single digits or lower. With a total this small, that pattern reads as noise from a hard-to-detect deep-water species rather than a real seasonal signal in Florida waters.
