Florida ranks the gray bat S1, Critically Imperiled, a sharper state-level concern than its G3, Vulnerable, global rank. All 265 of the state’s records come from GBIF rather than iNaturalist, which fits a species documented mostly through cave and roost surveys rather than casual sightings.
May produces the year’s highest count, with August running a close second; the months between drop off sharply, especially February and October. That pattern probably tracks when surveys happen at known roosts more than it reflects the bat’s own activity, though the records can’t confirm that either way.
