American mink reports stretch from the Lake Michigan shore at Illinois Beach to Cache River wetlands and streams in Shawnee National Forest. That north-to-south spread is tied together by wooded banks and shallow water, not by one broad region of the state.
The small monthly series covers seven months and is highest in October. With so few reports behind it, one survey or well-watched site can strongly shift the apparent peak, so it can’t support claims about abundance.
