Eastern gray squirrel is not native to Idaho; NatureServe flags the species as exotic, and its 40 recorded sightings cluster in the forested panhandle around the Idaho Panhandle and Nez Perce-Clearwater national forests, urban and park plantings far from this squirrel’s native eastern hardwood range.
January carries the largest share of reports, when bare branches and winter foraging make squirrels easier to spot against the canopy in town parks and yards. With iNaturalist and GBIF totals nearly matched, this is one of the more consistently photographed introduced mammals in this rank band.
